| The Boys & Girls Club of New Britain
The unique and vital programs offered by the Club enhance the quality of life for youth and prepare them for responsible citizenship. The Club provides significant opportunities for young people through its intellectual, personal and social growth programs, and physical well being in a caring and safe place, regardless of a family’s financial status. The Club is staffed by outstanding, dedicated professionals and volunteers who mentor boys and girls.
The Club is the only organization in New Britain providing an open door/drop in environment for youth ages six to18. A comprehensive youth development strategy underlies the Boys & Girls Club programs fostering a sense of belonging, competence, and usefulness—influences that build self-confidence and self-esteem.
Philosophy
To deepen the impact on the children and teens that we serve, we employ a proven, nationally recognized youth development framework providing youth with skills, knowledge, and attributes they need to pursue their dreams and succeed in life. We do this one child, one youth, one teen at a time.
We know that if we want to make a lasting impact, then kids need to frequently experience our unique brand of service, including a safe and positive environment, supportive and nurturing relationships, opportunities and expectations, and positive reinforcement and recognition. That is the foundation of our philosophy--put to work every day at the Boys & Girls Club of New Britain.
What we do...
- Serve only children.
- Offer a year-round safe and nurturing environment for children, with an “open-door” policy.
- Provide a nationally accredited and affordable pre-school program.
- Provide structure in young lives, unavailable in other settings.
- Through peer- mentoring, model positive behavior, build self respect and respect for others. The programs are outcome based, with measurable impacts and focus on the whole child.
- Develop strong leadership attributes in children and youth.
- Offer innovative activities: VIP, Smart Moves, & Enrich (see attachment).
- Partner with New Britain schools providing a “drop-off” space when schools are not in session and are closed for storms and emergencies.
